Multimode or single-mode?

Should this fibre run be multimode or single-mode?

Multimode inside a building or across a campus, single-mode between buildings or across a city. Multimode has a wide 50 micron core and reaches hundreds of metres on cheap optics; single-mode has a 9 micron core and reaches kilometres, but the transceivers cost more. The fibre itself is rarely what decides it. The distance and the optics budget are.

Both are defined by ISO/IEC 11801, ITU-T G.652.D.
