OM5 multimode fibre.

Also written wideband multimode, lime green fibre, SWDM fibre.

What is OM5 fibre for?

Carrying several wavelengths on one multimode fibre, so a 100 gigabit link that would need eight OM4 fibres runs on two OM5 ones. It is the lime green fibre, backward compatible with OM4 at every ordinary speed, and worth its premium only in a data centre planning wavelength-division transceivers. For a campus or a building backbone, OM4 or single mode does the same job for less.

Defined by ISO/IEC 11801, which defines the OM5 cabled category, published by ISO/IEC.
