What is OM4 fibre?
OM4 is a laser-optimised 50 micron multimode fibre grade. It carries 10 Gigabit Ethernet to roughly 400 metres and 100 Gigabit to around 150 metres, further than OM3 at the same core size. It is the usual grade for a data centre or campus backbone where the runs are longer than an OM3 budget allows.
Defined by ISO/IEC 11801 and TIA-492AAAD, published by IEC.
