Which modular plug fits my cable?
A modular plug is the crimp-on connector at the end of a cord, and it has to match the cable on three counts: the category, the conductor type, solid or stranded, and the jacket size. A plug crimped onto the wrong conductor type makes a joint that fails a year later. Shielded cable takes a shielded plug with a metal shell, and every plug needs its own die.
