Patch cord.

Also written Patch lead, Patch cable.

What is a patch cord?

A patch cord is the short flexible cable that connects a wall outlet to a device, or a patch panel to a switch. Its conductors are stranded so it can bend and be handled daily, where cable in the wall is solid and meant never to move. Buy the length the run needs: the standard allows ten metres of cords per channel, and slack is what makes cabinets untidy.

Defined by ANSI/TIA-568.2-D, published by TIA.
