What is Cat 6 cable?

Cat 6 is a twisted-pair copper cabling standard rated to 250 MHz. It carries Gigabit Ethernet over the full 100 metre channel, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet only over shorter runs of around 37 to 55 metres depending on how much alien crosstalk the bundle sees. For a new 10G-capable installation, Cat 6A is the class to specify instead.
