Gigabit Ethernet.

Also written 1GbE, 1000BASE-T.

What is Gigabit Ethernet?

Gigabit Ethernet carries 1000 megabits per second over four pairs of twisted-pair copper, to 100 metres. It runs on Cat 5e and above, so most existing cabling already supports it. Where a link needs more, the next step on copper is 10 Gigabit, which needs Cat 6A over a full-length channel.

Defined by IEEE 802.3ab (1000BASE-T), published by IEEE.
