What is Cat 5e cable?

Cat 5e is a twisted-pair copper cabling standard rated to 100 MHz. It carries Gigabit Ethernet over a 100 metre channel. 10 Gigabit Ethernet is not specified over it: the standard calls for Cat 6 or better, and anything faster than Gigabit on Cat 5e is outside what a test report can certify.
