What are uplink ports on a switch for?
Uplink ports are the faster ports on a switch that carry its traffic up to the core of the network. A 24 port gigabit switch commonly carries four 10 gigabit fibre uplinks, so twenty four users share forty gigabits upward instead of one. Match the uplink to the core: fibre modules for distance, ten gigabit where the edge is busy.
