When do I need shielded jacks?
Whenever the cable is shielded. A screen only works as a continuous path from the panel through the cable to the outlet, and a plain jack breaks it at the wall, leaving the foil floating and the noise it was meant to stop free to enter. Shielded jacks bond the screen to the panel, and the panel to the rack earth. Unshielded cable takes unshielded jacks.
Defined by ANSI/TIA-568.2-D and ISO/IEC 11801 on screened channels, published by TIA and ISO/IEC.
