Punch down termination (IDC).

Also written IDC termination, 110 punch down, Insulation displacement connection.

What is punch down or IDC termination?

Punch down termination presses a conductor into a slotted contact that cuts through the insulation to grip the copper. This insulation displacement connection makes a gas tight joint on solid conductor, with no stripping and no solder. It is how keystone jacks, patch panels and wiring blocks are terminated. Match the punch tool blade to the block; 110 is the most common style.

Defined by IEC 60352-4, which covers solderless insulation displacement connections, published by IEC.
