What is Power over Ethernet?

Power over Ethernet carries electrical power and data down the same twisted-pair cable, so a camera, access point or phone needs no separate power outlet. The standards run from roughly 15 watts at the port through to about 90 watts. Higher-power classes put more heat into a cable bundle, which is a pathway and bundle-size question rather than only a switch question.
