What is Power over Ethernet?

Power over Ethernet carries power and data down one twisted-pair cable, so a camera, access point or phone needs no separate outlet. The classes run from roughly 15 watts at the port to about 90. Higher power heats the bundle it runs in: the guidance holds that rise under 15 degrees Celsius and asks for no more than 24 cables to a bundle, which makes it a pathway question.

Defined by IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt, with TIA TSB-184-A and ISO/IEC TS 29125 for cable heating, published by IEEE, TIA and IEC.
