What is a metro Ethernet switch?
A managed switch built for a service provider's access ring rather than an office: fibre uplinks as standard, ring protection that reroutes in milliseconds, Q-in-Q tagging so customer VLANs travel untouched, and power options for a street cabinet. An office rarely needs one; an ISP, a cable operator or a campus with a fibre ring between buildings does.
