Media converter.

What does a media converter do?

It turns a copper Ethernet port into a fibre link, so a switch with no fibre port can reach a building 2 kilometres away over single mode. One converter at each end, matched in speed, fibre mode and connector, and a fibre patch cord between. Where the switch has an SFP slot, a transceiver does the same job; the converter is for the switch that does not.
