What is a DB25 connector used for?

The 25 pin D-sub, DB25, was the parallel printer port and the full RS-232 port, and it lives on in older instruments, industrial controllers and adapter cables that convert it to DB9. It is the same shell family as DB9, in male and female, crimp, solder and IDC. A DB25 to DB9 adapter carries only the nine signals RS-232 actually uses.
