What is a backshell or hood for?
A backshell, or hood, is the cover that closes the rear of a connector where the cable enters. Its clamp grips the jacket, so a pull on the cable lands on the shell and not on the contacts. A connector without one fails at its terminations first. Match it to the connector's shell size, and pick a metal one where the cable screen must carry through.
