Channel and permanent link.

Also written Permanent link test, Channel test, Link test.

What is the difference between a channel and a permanent link test?

The permanent link is the installed cabling alone, from panel to outlet, at most 90 metres. The channel adds the patch cords at both ends and runs to 100 metres, which is what the equipment actually sees. Certify the permanent link at handover, because cords change; test the channel when a live circuit misbehaves.

Defined by ANSI/TIA-568.2-D and ISO/IEC 11801, which both define the two test configurations, published by TIA and IEC.
