What is a simplex fibre patch cord?

A simplex cord carries one fibre and one connector at each end. It is used for pigtails spliced into a termination box, for test leads, and for bidirectional optics that send and receive over a single strand at two different wavelengths. Anything using an ordinary two-fibre transceiver needs a duplex cord instead.
