What is a pin header?

A pin header is a row or two of plain pins soldered to a circuit board that a matching crimp housing plugs onto, the board side of most wire-to-board connections. It is specified by pitch, 2.54 or 2.00 or 1.25 millimetres, by pole count, by straight or right angle, and by whether it is shrouded to key the housing. The housing and its contacts are bought to match.
