What is TP-Link Omada?

Omada is TP-Link's business network management platform for compatible access points, switches and gateways. Controller choices include on-premises hardware, software and cloud-hosted options, with different infrastructure and feature requirements. Check the exact device model, hardware version and firmware against the chosen controller's compatibility list. Remote cloud access to a local controller is not the same as a cloud-hosted controller.

Keep the specification intact. Not every TP-Link product joins an Omada controller, and similarly named controller options do not imply identical features, licensing or maintenance responsibilities.

Do I need a hardware controller for every Omada project?

Not necessarily. Compare the supported hardware, software and cloud-based options with the site's required functions and operating constraints. A software option still needs a maintained host, while cloud-hosted management has its own connectivity and feature requirements.

How do I check whether an existing TP-Link switch can join Omada?

Record the full model, hardware version and firmware, then consult the compatibility list for the chosen controller. Do not rely only on the product family name or a photograph. Include those details when requesting an expansion quote.
