What is a core switch?

The switch every other switch connects to: it routes between the floors' networks, carries the servers and the firewall, and moves traffic at ten gigabit and above. It is bought for capacity, redundancy and the ability to route rather than for ports, and it is the one switch a site cannot afford to see fail. Two, stacked, is the ordinary answer.
