When does a control cable need armour?

A control cable needs armour where it can be crushed, dragged over or chewed: across a plant floor, in an open trench, along a conveyor. The steel braid under the jacket takes the abuse the conductors cannot, at the cost of a larger bend radius. Inside a panel or a sealed duct it is unnecessary weight. The armour is bonded to earth at the entry point.
