What is a solder cup connector?

A solder cup connector has contacts ending in a small cup that a stripped wire is laid into and soldered, with no special tool beyond an iron. It suits a one-off cable, a repair or a prototype where the crimp tooling would cost more than the job. Every joint is made and inspected by hand, so it is slower than crimping and depends on the person holding the iron.
