What is an LC to SC cord for?

An LC to SC cord joins the two connector generations: an older LIU or media converter with SC adapters at one end, a modern switch transceiver with LC at the other. It saves re-terminating a panel that works. The two ends must still share the fibre's mode and grade, and the polish must match at each end, UPC to UPC in nearly every case.

Defined by ANSI/TIA-568.3-D for optical fibre cabling components, published by TIA.
