Cable markers.

Also written cable label, wire marker, identification sleeve.

What kind of cable marker should be used?

A cable marker is the label or sleeve that names a cable at each end, and the right kind depends on where it lives: a self-laminating label for patch cords, a printed sleeve slid on before termination for panel wiring, an industrial marker that survives oil and heat on a plant. The code on it must match the drawing and the panel, or it names nothing.

Defined by ANSI/TIA-606-C, the administration standard for labelling telecommunications infrastructure, published by TIA.
